Harriet Tubman

By David Paul

Harriet Tubman was born as a slave.  But when she grew up, she became very famous. When she was young, she was often called Binti.  In her lifetime, she freed 300 slaves!  She had to go back 19 times to get all 300 slaves.  Once when she was working, an owner was about to throw a weight at another slave. Instead it hit her head because she blocked it.  From then on, she suffered blackouts and headaches.  When she was young, she was named Araminta  Ross.  Then, she changed her first name to Harriet in honor of her mother.  Her husband’s last name was Tubman, so she changed it to Tubman, too.  I hope you learned a lot from this article.  Thanks for reading!
